Allergy Injection Clinic
The health center does not do allergy testing or provide serum. However,
students who are on a desensitization program can bring their serum , along
with a schedule and instruction sheet from the prescribing allergist to be administered
at the health center. This is a free service for all eligible Caltech students
and their spouses enrolled in the student health center spouse program.
For more information on this service, call the health center and ask to speak
to one of the nurse practitioners.
Students and spouses who use this service are required to comply with Clinic
Rules and Policies for Students on Desensitization Therapy.
Clinic Rules and Policies For Students On Desensitization Therapy
- This service is free to all registered students and spouses enrolled in
the student health center spouse program.
- Allergy shots are administered Monday to Friday from 8:30 -
11:45 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.
- For your safety, allergy injections are not given if there is only
one nurse practitioner in the clinic.
** occasionally, consultation with your allergist by the health center staff
may occur which can result to alterations in your allergy schedule.
- You will be asked to wait for 15 - 20 minutes after receiving the
allergy injection. This is imperative so we can monitor for any signs and symptoms
of allergic reactions which can range from mild to severe.
- During your post injection evaluation period, notify any of the health
center staff if you experience any of the following:
- a. increase intensity of allergy symptoms like coughing, sneezing, watery
eyes.
- b. generalized rash
- c. shortness of breath
- The student is responsible in ensuring that allergens arrive at the
health center on time and are delivered properly to ensure viability of the
serum.
