TB Skin Test (PPD)

A Mantoux skin test is required and must be read by a licensed health care provider within six months prior to entry at Caltech. The interpretation of results is recorded in millimeter (mm) of induration and not erythema or redness.

For students who have a history of BCG (Bacillus-Calmette Guerin) vaccination, this does not preclude the need for TB skin test or chest-x ray. The chest x-ray result should be negative and within the last 6 months prior to school entry.

A Tinne test result from your state or country of origin is not acceptable.

A positive skin test in the past should not be repeated or if you have been treated for tuberculosis (TB). You must have a chest x-ray within six months prior to school entry. The results of the chest x-ray should be attached to the health form. (Do not send the x-ray films).  Any documentation of treatment should also be forwarded to the Student Health Center.
